South Central Eleuthera Beaches and Points of Interest:

Double Bay:

Picture
Double Bay beach is one of our favorite Atlantic Beaches.  It is another spectacularly beautiful Atlantic beach, as most of them are.  There is a chain of reefs running from the shore all the way out to the outer reefs so there is great snorkeling for all comfort levels here.  Last time we were there we saw quite a few sharks out toward the outer reefs about 200 yards out.
To get to Double Bay go 3 miles south from the Palmetto Point intersection and take a left.  From the south go 1.3 miles north of Savannah Sound and take a right.  The Double Bay road is a nice paved road so it is easy to spot.  Follow the road for about a mile till you reach a T.  Take a right at the T and continue down this road for another mile then take a left after the last house.  Follow this small sand road for about a tenth of a mile, there is not much of a turnaround and the sand is very soft at the end so park wherever you can turn around and walk the rest of the way.

Ten Bay:

Ten Bay is the epitome of a calm Caribbean sandy beach suitable for all ages.  It is the perfect place for a leisurely day at the beach where you can lounge in the sun or shade, go for a casual swim or cruse the beach for sea shells.  There is even decent snorkeling around the rocky outer edges of the beach.  You can try your hand at bonefishing here, but the fish are used to fisherman so they may be some of the hardest to catch.  You will most likely not have the beach to yourself though as this is the most popular beach on Eleuthera.
To get to Ten Bay Beach go about 4.4 miles south from the Palmetto Point crossroads and take a right onto a dirt road.  There used to be a tiny Ten Bay Beach sign on the right.  If you see a bunch of signs with residents names you just passed the road, just turn around and take your first left.  If traveling from the south go 2.7 miles north from Savannah Sound and take the first left after the residents signs.  Follow the main road 0.4 miles and head to the beach.

Winding Bay:

Picture
Winding Bay is another beautiful Atlantic beach.  It is unique for an Atlantic beach in that it is well protected from the wind so it is generally calm.  There is a lot of sea grass here making it a great place to spot sea turtles, but not the best for snorkeling.
To get to Winding Bay from the north go through Tarpum Bay and just shy of a mile after you turn away from the bay you will see Kinky’s Gas Station and the Tarpum Bay Shopping Center.  Take a left on the road between the two, right after the gas station.  From the south go 5.5 miles north from the Rock Sound Airport, and take the first right after the Tarpum Bay Shopping Center.   Follow this road 1.4 miles; you may see some signs for the old Venta Club on your way.  As the road starts to turn to the right take a left onto a small dirt road.  Follow this road for about a half mile you will see the first access to the beach on the right.  You can park and walk down the trail to the beach from here or if you want to keep going there are a couple more beach accesses farther down the road.
